Welcome! If you’re not yet familiar with Get Georgia Reading, please take a moment to watch the video above for a brief introduction to the program.
Get Georgia Reading is a statewide initiative dedicated to ensuring that all Georgia children become proficient readers by the end of third grade, utilizing a four-pillar framework and data-driven approaches.
The yellow on the map indicates all of the Georgia counties that have implemented the Get Georgia Reading program. Unfortunately, Upson County is not yet listed, nor are we on the L4GA map, the Georgia Reads map, or the Certified Literate Community Program map.

For the Love of Reading, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Thomaston, GA, is in the process of developing a Community Action Team to create an Action Plan for implementing the Get Georgia Reading program in Upson County, which we’re calling “Get Upson Reading.”
While our primary focus is to offer programs for children from birth to age four, our team includes teachers from the primary school who are helping guide necessary changes for K-3 education, both within schools and across the community.
Our first goal is to apply for a grant to implement “The Basics.”
Partners for this application might include; the Primary School, Upson Family Connection, Thomaston Housing Authority, the Upson County Health Department, the Library, well as local churches, child care facilities, and doctors’ offices.
